Princess Royal University Hospital Special Care Baby Unit

Floyd Slaski Architects enthusiastically undertook the development of a new Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) and Stabilisation Room at Princess Royal University Hospital in Orpington, in collaboration with King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Phase 1 of the project involved upgrading the existing 8-cot and 5-cot bays to create a modernized 6-cot SCBU and a 5-cot Stabilisation Room, both equipped with advanced vertical medical supply units designed to meet end-user requirements and enhance patient care.

Key challenges included navigating the spatial constraints of the existing limited space to optimize functionality and leveraging the flexibility of articulated medical unit arms to maximize available space efficiently.

Looking forward to seeing Phase 2 of the project progressing on site. This would add a further 5-cot bays space and 2 isolation rooms.
