2024 - London UK

Laxton Library, Peterborough

The project focuses on revitalizing the library space at the Peterborough site, transforming it into an open, functional environment that fosters learning and collaboration. The new design features a refined layout that promotes agility, increases the number of desks and PCs to meet user needs, and shifts the focus from physical book storage to expanded digital resources.

A biophilic design approach is central to this transformation by creating a dedicated health and well-being area, the integration of plants and preserved moss feature walls and the use of wood textures and a colour palette inspired by nature - all to enhance relaxation and inspiration in the new space. Our design options ranged from minimal updates to comprehensive reconfigurations, with all concepts emphasizing flexibility, ergonomic seating and enhanced acoustics, to create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.

The use of low-level shelving opens up the space visually and maximizes natural light intake. Cozy seating areas are incorporated to create a warm, welcoming space that accommodates both individual study and collaborative activities. This project aims to establish the library as a vibrant hub that evolves alongside its users' needs.
