Maria Assirelli - Previous Practice
Queen Mary University Library
Working with the interior designer’s concept design, Maria Luigia Assirelli delivered for GA Architects this project which was a major refurbishment of the university’s library, originally designed by the architect of the British Library.
The concept established the ground floor as a social and learning space with bookable rooms for private study, new areas for lending, archive and café area. Quiet study areas are located on the upper levels.
Although the library remained partly open during the construction period, the programme was delivered under extreme pressure due to the need to complete the works whilst the majority of the students were on summer holidays.
