The team at Floyd Slaski celebrate 70 years of cutting edge architecture and we toast all who have contributed to our success, past and present.
Formed in 1952, the year her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was proclaimed Queen, we have a long track record as both a safe pair of hands and as passionate designers and innovators.
WW2 veterans Michael Floyd, Peter Slaski, William Challen and Anthony Todd founded the practice and work came in all shapes and sizes from motorway service stations, hospitals, estate regeneration, to one off prestigious projects such as designing the Chinese Embassy building, opposite the RIBA headquarters on Portland Place.
Healthcare architecture however has been instrumental to Floyd Slaski since inception. Peter Slaski previously worked as an architect designing medical facilities at the UK Ministry of Health and his client contacts from this period helped begin our rich tradition that sees health as our core speciality to this day.
Within the career timeframes of our current team stretching over 30 years, we have innovated with the development of standard designs for new psychiatric hospitals, developed early designs for wards caring for patients suffering from AIDS and delivered various schemes for acute hospitals including private sector work such as the King George VII Hospital as well as many other clinics in Central London.
We designed the two substantial extensions to the King Edward VII Hospital located on Devonshire Street and Beaumont Street where Peter Slaski had the honour of meeting the Queen at the opening. The hospital has been used by various members of the British Royal Family, including Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III.
The practice designed the first cyberknife facility in the UK and was active throughout the Covid pandemic, attending sites and designing facilities in record breaking time to help fight the virus.
We have always embraced learning, technology, new systems and standardisation to enhance our creativity, efficiency and client service. BIM, design in 3D and producing visuals are all now part of our standard offering.
Our studio has experienced steady growth over many years with a great team able to respond with enthusiasm and commitment to our challenging client briefs and programme demands.
Thanks to our talented colleagues our healthcare expertise and portfolio continues to strengthen in both acute hospitals, mental health and primary care, both NHS and privately commissioned.
We have a focus on projects in the £20 to £30 million construction cost bracket and next year we look forward to overseeing and delivering these significant schemes which are currently on the drawing board. We are excited to reveal more details as soon as these are submitted for planning.
In the run up to Christmas we are proud to be completing various developments on site including the new CT and Outpatients entrance extension at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This project was redesigned along with MRI as a result of the pandemic to improve infection control, significantly separating inpatient and outpatient flows to the imaging department.
It has been a fascinating ride and we are all so pleased that the practice is booming.
We would like to thank our clients and colleagues, for their confidence in working with us over the last seventy years and we look forward to a bright and healthy future!
