Sleep Centre

The Royal Brompton Hospital is a world-leader in the research and treatment of sleep disorders including pioneering work in sleep apnoea, positive pressure airway therapy and home ventilation. The existing centre treated over 1,500 patients a year and with the expansion of the service into newly refurbished premises this has allowed the number treated to increase and the service to diversify.

The practice worked closely with user groups and Steven Appleby, a Trust employed artist, to ensure that the new building provided an harmonious atmosphere where patients are put at ease throughout all stages of their treatment. The work involved the complete refit of the ground floor of the Listed “Brompton Fire Station” and the adjoining Trafalgar Chambers together with the construction of a new wing to the rear. The scheme included four bedrooms for observed and monitored overnight stays, three clinic rooms, waiting, reception, offices, technical laboratory, staff and patients’ kitchen and wcs.
